Irvine, CA (March 1, 2006) – ASICS Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.®) is the design philosophy that lies at the heart of each of our performance athletic shoes, and forms the platform for the evolution of the line. ASICS’ goal is simple: Provide an ideal environment for the shoe to work with the foot by creating a more natural heel-to-toe movement. The technology employs a sophisticated system of linked components designed to adapt to each wearer’s specific gait and foot type, but I.G.S. isn’t defined by one ‘marquee’ component. This allows every model to use the appropriate componentry for the particular gait pattern they’re designed to accommodate. To that end, the latest evolution of I.G.S. features two components that have been incorporated into our top performance running shoes like the GEL-Kinsei™ and GEL-Kayano®: Gender Specific Fit and SoLyte™ midsole material.

These two technologies are also present in the new GEL-Nimbus® VIII, ASICS flagship cushioningGEL-NimbusĀ® VIII shoe, designed to provide exceptional platform comfort and stability for gaits ranging from underpronators to mild overpronators. The SoLyte midsole material is neither EVA nor PU, but a proprietary, advanced co-polymer compound that is lightweight, durable, responsive, and comfortable. In fact, SoLyte is lighter than ASICS current light SpEVA®, yet exceeds ASICS highest standards for tear strength, compression, shock attenuation and energy return. The SoLyte midsole material will only enhance the ride and comfort of the previous GEL-Nimbus models.

In an effort to provide optimal performance footwear to both men and women, ASICS has added the Gender Specific Fit to the GEL-Nimbus VIII. Along with building shoes on a woman’s specific last and heel geometry, ASICS has re-engineered its proprietary Space Trusstic System™ to provide a deeper recess between the trusstic support device and the midsole. This enables the shoe to accommodate normal changes in the shape of the arch and provide for a more customized fit.

The Gender Specific Fit and SoLyte midsole material can also be found in the all new GEL-Empire™ II. The GEL-Empire II is a stability shoe that combines a full length contoured Dynamic ForefootGEL-Empire II Cradle™ and “twist” GEL® Cushioning System in the forefoot to support and guide the late-stage overpronator throughout the entire gait cycle. The upper has been redesigned and incorporates ASICS Biomorphic Fit Panels and PHF® (Personalized Heel Fit) to provide superior fit and performance. The GEL-Empire II will carry on the tradition by employing the same unique components as the original, while also employing these latest technical advances.

Another popular ASICS shoe, the GEL Cumulus® will receive an update for Fall 2006. The GEL-GEL-Cumulus VIIICumulus VIII now features a full length SpEVA midsole and SpEVA 45 lasting enhancing durability, shock attenuation and comfort. A new molded Trusstic System provides a stable, neutral platform for runners seeking cushioned, stable comfort. An unstructured, open mesh upper provides a comfortable and breathable environment for the foot.

The evolution of technologies within the I.G.S.® design philosophy allows unlimited flexibility to employ only the features that make sense for specific gait patterns, whether that’s late-stage pronation, neutral or slight midfoot pronation. Thus, I.G.S. provides ASICS the perfect platform to employ new and improved technology, creating consistent and seamless evolution of each product from one version to the next.
