The Legendary GEL-Kayano® Named 'Editor's Choice' By Runner's World®

Irvine, CA (January 30, 2006) - ASICS® explodes off the starting blocks ahead of the competition, as the famously popular GEL-Kayano XII has been named ‘Editor’s Choice’ by Runner’s World® magazine. The Spring 2006 Shoe Guide (March 2006) describes the updated version of the legendary GEL-Kayano series as, “…two ounces less than last year’s – no small feat in a shoe with so much great technology.”

The GEL-Kayano XII continues to deliver the very best of our proprietary Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.®) technology, combining the ultimate blend of cushioning and support. The most exciting new addition to this 12th version is the all-new Solyte™ midsole material. Solyte is not EVA®, but a new material that is significantly lighter than ASICS standard midsole material, yet, provides improved cushioning and durability. Another added feature to the shoe is a newly designed forefoot Twist GEL® Cushioning System. This “Twist” GEL is under the ball of the foot with two uniquely shaped struts that extend laterally, and are visible through the midsole.

ASICS also debuts a new gender specific Space Trusstic System™ in the GEL-Kayano XII. Ongoing biomechanical research shows startling differences in the movement patterns of male and female runners, as well as differences in foot shape and size. The research shows that higher concentrations of circulating hormones may be a significant factor in injury patterns in women, specifically the hormone estrogen, which is a soft tissue relaxant. As estrogen levels change throughout the month, so does ligament elasticity. This becomes significant to female runners, as the major ligaments in the arch can become flatter and less supportive.
