Irvine, CA (March 6, 2006) - The GEL-Kinsei, ASICS “golden star” running shoe, was honored with the ‘Best New Shoe” award by the Running Network (www.runningnetwork.com). In their 2006 Spring Shoe Review, the GEL-Kinsei was honored for its unique GEL® Cushioning System, comfort and durability.
“This melding of stable cushioning technologies and the way it accommodates a variety of runners and their performances, as well as the new Spacemaster materials and the fit of the upper, earned the GEL-Kinsei our Best New Shoe honors.”
The most stunning feature of the GEL-Kinsei’s is the Discrete Heel Unit, which takes the Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.®) to another level by creating an ASICS shoe that has superior shock attenuation and stability. The cushioning and stability parameters of the shoe are provided by separate and very interactive rearfoot GEL columns.
The midsole of the GEL-Kinsei is comprised of a revolutionary new two-piece construction that wraps under the heel to the form the support system for the Discrete Heel Unit. Contoured and protective, the cradle extends all the way to the forefoot, incorporating the Space Trusstic™ System at the midfoot. Enhanced cushioning properties, a crucial factor when runners touch down or toe-off, are achieved through a combination of the ASICS new SoLyte midsole material and ASICS Twist GEL Cushioning System.

The highlight of the upper is a newly developed, Japanese mesh called Spacemaster-UV. Conceived by observing the unique properties of marine coral, Spacemaster-UV is very breathable, remarkably strong, and is about 30% lighter than regular polyester mesh. The materials used in Spacemaster-UV provides much better UV shielding by not only absorbing but also reflecting the sun’s heat rays.
