Inversion refers to motion in the frontal plane. If the foot is inverted it means the sole of the foot is tilted so that it faces more towards the mid line of the body. The most common sprain is an “inversion sprain”, that is the foot inverts abnormally at the ankle injuring the support ligaments.
Inversion is the term we associate with a supinator. In this case the heel bone is visibly tilted away from the mid line of the body. |
