Adduction simply means to move the foot or any part of the foot toward the mid line of the body. An excessively adducted gait, results in the typical “pigeon toe’ walking pattern.


Abduction is the opposite to adduction and means to move the foot away from the mid line of the body. It is normal for the feet to be slightly abducted, or turned out, during gait.
