This year we’ve invited a group of running bloggers to participate in the 2014 ASICS LA Marathon Blogger Challenge: complete a training program with Coach Andrew Kastor and run in the LA Marathon on March 9th, 2014. We love connecting with people who share our passion for running and this group has it in spades. If you’d like to participate in future programs like the Blogger Challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
We proudly announce to you the official 2014 ASICS LA Marathon Blogger Challenge Team!
About: I'm a Washington D.C. area Registered Dietitian with nutrition counseling private practice and a love for running, travel, adventure, and healthy recipe creation! I started my blog 4 years ago as a way to inspire others to lead happier, healthier lives, and I've loved sharing my adventures in fitness and food along the way. I've completed 8 half marathons and just ran my first full marathon in the fall (Richmond – here’s my recap). I had a blast and can't wait to conquer my second full marathon in LA!
Goal: Have fun and see movie stars. :)
About: I started running about five years ago and now have several marathons and an Ironman under my belt. There is something about endurance training and racing that simply makes me incredibly satisfied, motivated and content. My philosophy is that with a combination of discipline, self-care and the right attitude, you can do whatever you want to do. And, it doesn't hurt to not take yourself too seriously.
Goal: I'd love to PR, but my main goal is to feel good and to take in all that LA has to offer.
About: Love my family (married father of 2), University of Kansas and Endurance Sports. I tend to blab about those passions on Twitter, Facebook and blogs. As a Level 1 USAT Triathlon Coach, I have some unique perspective on racing and training. Raising funds for http://www.Tri4aHandUp.com/ charities.
Goal: I would love to reach a Boston Qualifying time at the LA Marathon.
About: Running found me at an early age. It changed my life and set my career trajectory. I'm a run coach and personal trainer with an MS in Exercise Science and Health Promotion at Race Pace Wellness, based in NYC. For the past fifteen years I've cheered hundreds of people on towards a healthier, more exercise-endorphin filled life.
Goal: Enjoy every step. Smile so much my face hurts.
About: Mark Newman traded a box of KOOLS for a box of ASICS 7 years ago and kept running around the world, now nearing his 100th race and making LA his 13th marathon or ultra. He proposed to Lisa after the 2009 NJ Marathon, another reason he considers finish lines sacred. His byline is well known to millions of baseball fans, a Hall of Fame voter in his 13th year with MLB.com and a National Magazine Award recipient. Dad to four young runners and wants to run marathon with his English Bulldog. Favorite medal: Yellow Jersey at Paris!
About: Michele is a mom of 2, Ironman (chasing Kona dream), Ultrarunner, Marathoner, Run Coach, Former Army Captain / 3x Iraqi Veteran. She blogs about training for marathons and triathlons while juggling the demands of being a wife and mom.
About: Blogger. Runner. Redhead. Mexican. Monica blogs from Southern California. When she's not running, she's eating. And when she's not running or eating she's blogging about it at RunEatRepeat.com.
About: One mom: running through life one day at a time. Rachel is a never-at-home, stay-at-home, homeschooling mom to three little boys. She loves running and is passionate about her faith, family, fitness, food and always having fun!
Goal: My goal for the LA Marathon is to finish strong with a smile on my face with a PR from CIM.
About: Runner, blogger, father and all around fan of the running community. I have run everything from a 5k to a 50 miler and am looking to run faster and further... perhaps both. LA will be my 21st marathon and I'm still learning how to run these things.
Goal: I'm hoping to set a PR at the marathon. I'll be aiming for my first sub 3:30 marathon.
About: I'm a marathon running, treadmill loving mama of four-year-old twin boys. I blog about all things running & racing, fitness & workouts, kitchen experiments & recipes. There’s never a dull moment in my racing schedule or the daily shenanigans happening around the STUFT house.
Goal: I would love to beat my time I got last year, but honestly to cross that finish line with a smile and the ability to run another race and be the best mama I can afterwards.
About: Jamie is the CEO and founder of Fit Approach (www.fitapproach.com, home of the SweatPink community). She is also CEO and founder of SweatGuru (www.sweatguru.com), an online fitness marketplace. She is an ultra-marathoner, yogi and lover of dark chocolate and red wine. She resides in San Francisco, CA and can often be found running the Bay Area trails.
Goal: I typically only run on trails so my goal for the LA Marathon will be to cross the finish line using little to no swear words.
